Otaru

We ate at this stately mansion of a former herring magnate, now a museum.

In Otaru we visited the former Kubo house and store, located on the main street of the historic district, now frequented by tourists. We also admired the magnificent cut glass and bought some metal cocktail glasses for results.
Sawako was very generous and showing us and driving us around town as well as her staying I would delicious tempura lunch in a small shop.

Hakodate

View from Hakodate tower overlooking fortress.

Buildings within fortress.

From the hill

We were amazed that Hakodate was such an interesting place, with an amazing 19th century fortress, a marvel of design and construction.  The night view from Mt. Hakodate was specta-cular but cold and crowded with tourists.  Uni was much enjoyed by most at dinner and dutifully consumed by myself.

Sapporo

Nakajima park is simply spectacular in the variety and layout of the beautiful fall display of colors. There's also an elegant little lake present and the famous Sapporo concert Hall, with a statue of Leonard Bernstein.

Symphony Hall in Nakajima park.

Junko in front of concert hall.

Yamanakako

The car trip through the lakes surrounding Fuji was spectacular. We had lunch at a delightful spot near one of the smaller likes with a beautiful view Fujisan.
